Can
positive phone calls home make a difference in the learning environment of the
music room and the school as a whole?
The answer in this bloggers’ opinion is YES!
Through research on this topic, it is apparent that
teachers who incorporate a positive phone call home into their communication
and behavioral management plan express the effectiveness of the strategy. In Susan Graham-Clay’s (2005) article “Communicating
with Parents: Strategies for Teachers”,
three researchers address the affirming effect of a positive phone call home
through student success (Gustafson, 1998), positive relationships (Love, 1996),
and “setting the stage” for future calls (Ramirez, 2002). The positive phone
call home is just a piece of a larger communication and behavioral plan that
all teachers should incorporate.
